The Best Living Room Ever

I can see it... on the horizon... getting closer... soon...SOON! I will own an actual, real house.
Yup. No more of this rental apartment nonsense. A house with an honest-to-God mortgage and sidewalks and a yard and, if I have any say in the matter, a garage.

I love interior design and looking at magazines and websites and real life places for inspiration for my one-day home. Unfortunately, because we don't yet know what home we'll buy and because we don't have money for renovating, I don't want to fall too much in love with anything so grand as a granite counter top. Granite is a one-day thing. But things like paint and a new sofa are achievable in the not-so-distant future, so that's where my design sights are set presently.

I find myself drawn to bright, airy, beachy interiors. Cold and sparse is not my thing. I love built-in bookshelves, and heaven knows we'll need them, as the husband and I are both former bookstore employees and serious bibliophiles. Here are a few pictures that are inspiring the heck out of me right now:

 These bookshelves make me drool.

This is a beach cottage at The Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. We visited the hotel on our honeymoon at my insistence, because that's where Marilyn Monroe filmed "Some Like It Hot." I love yellow walls with white trim, grey furniture, and of course, the ocean out the window ;) I love Marilyn Monroe. I love hardwood. If I could just live there, that would make me very happy.

Hydrangeas just make me happy.

Since a porthole window is likely unachievable, a porthole mirror would work in a pinch. I love me some nautical elements, especially in prairie suburbia ;)

So... when can I move in?

The Green Handbag Pursuit

Ever since the beginning of time I've wanted a green purse. But I have a little problem. My French genes have expensive taste, but my Scottish genes are cheap. I've fallen in love with many a green purse, but I have yet to shell out $200+ for one. Also I'm fairly simple, so dangling, shiny purse bits don't do it for me. I have complicated taste, in that I like the non-complicated. But here's what I love:

How cute are those? I also adoooore these satiny green clutches. They make me long for elegant 1950s parties in Barbie-esque gowns.

*sigh* One day... one day.

Renovation

Well, well... It's been a long time since I blogged, but lately my mind has been full of things and I'm looking for a place to put those things!

My blog-of-old mostly involved a lot of rambling, but I'm leaning more in the direction of "style" these days. I'm looking for style. I need inspiration for my clothes, my house, my hair, my life. A style journal, if you will. Spring may be 2 months away, but it's time for a fresh start anyway. Are you ready? Here we go!
